Senior Report

We welcome a couple of new captains for this season with Steve Fryer taking charge of
the second team and Roley Fowler with the fourths. We wish them well for this campaign
and also to Mark Padwick who has left the club to rejoin his boyhood club, Easton &
Martyr Worthy, to captain their first team.

Nets are well underway and we have some very welcome new additions to the club as
well as some returning players, so competition for places this year will be competitively
fierce. I am delighted to announce that the club has secured the signing of Lionel Baker
from the tiny island of Montserrat in the Leeward Islands. Lionel is a strike bowler who
has played four test matches for the West Indies as well as ten ODI matches, so he is very
exciting new addition to the club’s bowling ranks.

Please check the website www.stcrosscc.co.uk for details of the friendly matches and I
think for the first time in many years that the first team will begin the SEPL campaign
in April. All the captains this year have plenty of youth to call upon and I thank James
Burridge for all his help and support to the club’s Academy players throughout the
winter.

Having popped down to the ground this week it was easy to see that both the Steve’s
and Tom have worked a great deal both through the winter and at present to prepare
our lovely ground. This has been complicated by the Chafer Grub that has caused huge
damage to section of the outfields on both grounds. The guys have worked very hard to
repair this damage and it has already come on hugely from its worst back in October/
November... thank you.

Finally, I just want to make a quick mention to Jimmy who has had a very successful
winter from playing, and winning, the NZ domestic 20/20 competition with Auckland,
captaining a young Hants side in the West Indies for their 20/20 competition and
capped off by playing a full winter programme with the British Lions. Congratulations
to Jim and I am sure we all wish him well for a strong 2011 campaign with Hants.
I ask that you all support the captains with strong and clear availability and I hope you
all have an enjoyable and successful season.

Enjoy
Matt
